Getting started

Getting an Email account

Your e-mail account will automatically be generated by the University once you are enrolled in a class or entered into our payroll system. Visit www.usc.edu/firstlogin to find your account and activate your password. If you're a visiting scholar or any other special circumstance, please contact our system administrator earthadm@usc.edu

Once your account has been activated, you may use the USC's webmail services at email.usc.edu. Please send an initial email to earthadm@usc.edu so that our department can update our database and add you to our mailling lists.

Connecting to the Internet

USC Wireless

USC supports an open wireless network. Any guest can use it.

  1. Join the network "USC Wireless"
  2. Launch a web browser
  3. You should be automatically redirected to http://netreg.usc.edu, if not, manually go to the site.
  4. Read and agree to the policy

VPN may be required for some USC services

If you are a permanent member of the department, you can send your Wireless Hardware Address( ?) to earthadm(@usc.edu) to have it registered so you can skip step 3.

USC LAN (ethernet line)

Computers need to be registered before they can use our networked lines. To register your computer for ZHS, send the following info to earthadm(@usc.edu)

  • Name
  • Office
  • Ethernet Hardware Address ( ?) Plug in your computer to an active jack only after you receive email confirmation that it's registered. Unregistered computers will cause the jack to be suspended.
