Endnote X1 and Office 2008 Compatibility
If you have endnote X1 for Macs and Office 2008 for Macs from the department, you willneed to download a patch to make these programs compatible. You can get it from http://geosys.usc.edu/software/downloads/mac/ or Thompson's website.
Adobe Creative suite License Problem
If your Adobe products suddenly shows an error message  “Licensing for this product has stopped working", visit  http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html to download and run the fix tool.

Reset Password on Leopard Without Install Disc

To reset your password on Leopard without the install disc, follow these steps:

  1. Boot to single user mode (press command-S at power ON)
  2. Type fsck -fy
  3. Type mount -uw /
  4. Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
  5. Type dscl . -passwd /Users/username password  (replacing username with the targeted username and password with the desired password)
  6. Reboot

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats
By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. You can get it from http://geosys.usc.edu/software/downloads/win/  for Windows or http://geosys.usc.edu/software/downloads/mac/ for Mac. These patches can also be found on Microsoft's download website.
 
Custom Page Number Word Documents

To custom page number your Word documents, follow these steps

  1. Scroll to document page that you want to page number"1"
  2. Click on Insert > Page Number > Format
  3. Under Page Numbering, change to start at "1", click OK
  4. Click on Page Numbering and choose the location of you page numbers. This will number the page you have previously scrolled to as "1" and the following pages
  5. If your pages do not contiue to number, scroll to next page and Click on Insert > Page Number > Format and Under Page Numbering, check "Continue from previous section", click OK

To skip a page and continue numbering again, follow the above steps but scroll to the next page to be numbered and change to start to "next number"
