Tectonics of transform faults

This is a collaborative project involving John Platt and  Thorsten Becker, with the aim of investigating the tectonics of the San Andreas Transform system, primarily through the use of the geodetically-defined velocity field in California.  It has three main themes.

1.  Geodetic and seismotectonic constraints on the active tectonics of California

This work was funded by the Southern California Earthquake Center, USGS, and NSF, and has now been published (Platt et al, 2008).

2. Analysis of the slip-rate distribution on SAF-related faults in California

This work was funded by the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program, and has been published (Platt and Becker, 2010).

3.  Bookshelf slip on rotating panels of sinistral faults within the San Andreas Transform system

This project was funded by the Southern California Earthquake Center, and has been published (Platt and Becker, 2013).
