The Flux of Particulate Biogenic and Anthropogenic Material

Sediment traps have been deployed in San Pedro Basin since 2004. Annual records of particle flux include (C, N, P, bSi, radioisotopes, bacteria, domoic acid) We are looking at associations between particle flux and environmental forcing. We have also been studying reaction rates of remineralization both with a model of particle flux vs. depth (which makes some assumptions about settling velocity) and by laboratory measurements of particle (and sediment) reactivity. These lab experiments were designed to consider the importance of water column oxygen content, bacterial population and temperature as they impact C and biogenic Si reactivity. Collaborators:D.
