Microfluidics

Microfluidics is a tool we are using to investigate microbial organization, response to chemical stimulii, microbially mediated reaction rates, and microbe mineral interactions. We collaborate with biomedical engineers to construct reaction chambers that allow us fine spatial scale control on fluid chemistry distributions. With this device, we conduct experiments that help sort out geochemical "players" to identify the microbes present within certain micro-environments and ascertain how they organize and assemble under different environmental forcing.
