Havin' Gavin: A Baby 'Blog
|
So that family, friends, and fans of Gavin can follow along
with his progress without taking all of his parents' "free" time
on the phone or writing emails, we decided that he should have
his own weblog.
At first, we were going to write it as if from Gavin's point of view...
but initial efforts turned out to be unbearably cutesy, not to mention more
time-consuming to write. So this isn't so much Gavin's blog as a blog
about him by his parents -- what it's like havin' Gavin in our lives.
(Gavin's own blog should be available in three or four years!)

Ten months old!
|
|
Gavin turned 10 months old today, with little fanfare. Don't worry, though -- he'll get his usual birthday toy this weekend, I'm sure.
Last night, Gavin had spinach for the first time, in the form of Gerber's "Garden Vegetables". He ate the entire portion and still wanted more, so it was a hit -- no surprise, though, as the spinach was mixed with peas and carrots, two old stand-by hits. At day care today, Gavin's daddy asked his teacher Vivian to feed him another jar of the stuff. She confirmed that it was no fluke -- he loved it.
Tonight, Gavin had bananas and yogurt for dinner/dessert. Despite his initial lukewarm reaction to yogurt a few nights back, tonight we thought he was going to pop, he ate so much.

Pardon Me, Boy...

...is this the Pasadena station?
Gavin rode the Metro Gold Line (light rail) with his daddy today -- his first time on any sort of train. This
was really just a test to see if he could handle the train-riding experience well enough for it to be a feasible means of getting around on future daddy-days. We went from Pasadena to Union Station
(downtown Los Angeles) and back, with a meal and a little sightseeing at the station for a pleasant break. Piece of cake. Gavin enjoyed it about as much as he enjoys every new experience. On
the way back, he broke into laughter for no obvious reason; I think (as he did with the swing) he had suddenly figured out what was going on -- he was moving, fast, yet everything around him was still! Wheee!!
Helping out along the way were several female riders, with whom (naturally) Gavin engaged in his usual charming behavior. There was the coy lean, the pulling-off of the sock, and of course, tons of dimply smiles. Gavin started to tire out toward the end, so the help was appreciated... even if daddy sometimes feels like the no-name spouse of a celebrity when he's out with Mr. Popular.
One amusing note: as we were waiting to board at Union Station, a woman fell under Gavin's charming spell, but surprised me by asking, "Girl? ...or boy?" When I answered, she responded, "Really?!" I guess someone's a little too cute, sometimes.
