Thermal Behavior of Geological Processes within
the Continental Crust
Plutons introduce large quantities of heat into the continental crust.
We are examining the interaction of pluton material and its surrounding
host country rock. Fragments of country rock when immersed into a
magma reservoir will warm quickly.
We examine using two-dimensional finite difference methods the transfer
of heat from magma into an immersed block of country rock.
As can be seen in the below figure, a 10-m block warms quickly.
