The USCHelium Lab is done with construction and now we are filling it up with instruments! Once complete, the lab will be equipped to run (U-Th)/He chronometry on single minerals (silicates, phosphates, oxides), conduct He diffusion experiments, and measure whole rock trace element and REE’s.

We will have a table-top X-ray CT Scanner for opaque mineral screening for dating purposes, 3D grain volume characterization, and other (more exciting) geologic applications.

We will also have stereoscopes for picking mineral grains. USC has mineral separations facilities and a wealth of other laboratories both in our department and at the LA County Natural History Museum across the street!
